In August 2007, ICAA partners formed a working group on Infrastructure the “GTI” (from the Spanish acronym, Grupo de Trabajo sobre Infraestructura) in order to work towards improved regional policies to mitigate and respond to impacts of large infrastructure projects on communities and ecosystems in the Andean Amazon.  The working group coordinates efforts between ICAA partners and other key organizations to exchange information and experiences and to collectively influence decision making for improved infrastructure planning in the region.

The objectives of the GTI are:

  • Gather objective information about infrastructure projects planned for the Andean Amazon region.
  • Analyze trends in finance and investment in the Andean Amazon.
  • Understand social, economic and political implications of investments in infrastructure in the Amazon.
  • Develop responses to mitigate direct and indirect impacts of infrastructure investments on populations and  ecosystems.

GTI focuses on the following priority projects:

How does the GTI work?

By bringing together groups with diverse experiences the GTI represents an opportunity to mitigate threats from infrastructure in a comprehensive manner. GTI members range from ICAA partner organizations to other key conservation organizations to local, regional and international financial institutions.
