Why is this a priority project by ICAA?

The construction and combined effects of this project are greatly impacting the Madre de Dios region in Peru, one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the world.

Location

The project runs through the Amazon region of Madre de Dios, Cusco and Puno, and ranges from 200 meters to more than 4,000 meters above sea level.

Project purpose

This is one of the major projects of the Initiative for Integration of Regional Infrastructure of South America (IIRSA) joining Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. This project involves the construction of more than 1,071 km and rehabilitation of about 1,515 km of roads linking several southern regions. It aims to facilitate international trade, by allowing the transfer of Brazilian goods to the Pacific coast, including markets in Asia, the United States, Europe and Brazil.
